VMware Workstation Transport (VMDB) error -44

Damn it, my laptop rebooted and VMware gives me the finger:

Transport (VMDB) error -44: Message
The VMware Authorization Service is not running.

Luckily I'm not the only one, so following this guide I find the service at fault:

Transport (VMDB) error -44: Message

But to my suprise I get an even more concerning issue where the "VMware Authorization Service" dependency service does not exist:

VMware Authorization Service

More info was available through the VMware community forums but to make this work I had to "repair" the VMware Workstation 9, not an ideal solution but it worked.
